Microsoft Longhorn shoehorn more corn brainstorm: "It was a full 18 months ago that Bill Gates told an audience of top execs at an Etre conference in Berlin that Longhorn would take more to develop than the original NASA project to send a man to the moon.
A full 18 months before that, all the hardware vendors were getting terribly overexcited at the prospect of Longhorn which would include such nifty features and such a wonderful user interface that the whole world dog would climb on this bandwagon and be totally convinced they needed the hardware to go with it.
And while it's fair to say that most of these overexcited hardware vendors... have actually delivered this technology, we're still only being promised peeps of the future OS and Microsoft continues to keep its card very closely to its chest. We know from conversations with a number of the hardware players that they're very peeved with Microsoft. But what can they do? It's still Microsoft that determines the direction of the PC industry and even after missing deadline after deadline they're not brought to book for these delays..."
